Girls’ soccer, 4-11-2, failed to make the playoffs this year but improved their team culture.

North struggled on the road throughout the season, finishing with a 1-8 on opposing turf. They managed a .500 record at home, but it wasn’t enough to offset their struggles on the road.

According to English teacher Alicia Carrillo, the head coach, “This is the most positive, resilient, invested, driven, energetic team group that I have coached in my five years at Newton North.” Throughout the season the team used “P.R.I.D.E” as an acronym for these words.

Carrillo spoke extensively about the team’s resilience throughout the season. “This team never quit, even when we were down by a significant number of goals,” she said. “They played the full eighty minutes every single time.” Carrillo hopes this chemistry will carry over into next season.

She also gave credit for the team’s success to special education teacher Brian Rooney, the assistant coach.

The team plans to train more this offseason than they have in years past to prepare for next year.
