Girls’ soccer, 7-9, beat Walpole, 6-7-2, 4-0, in a match that contained “four quality goals,” said head coach Alicia Carrillo, and a lot of “positivity,” according to senior Lauren Eckenrode, a captain with seniors Julia Macdonald and Lydia Smith.
In an extremely windy game, the Tigers “did a really good job keeping Walpole at bay with the wind it their backs,” explained Carrillo. Eckenrode added that “during the second half, the wind definitely worked in our favor, and I really just think everyone just knew what they had to do in order to get this win.”
This game being possibly the seniors last home game for the team ever, the Tigers were able to celebrate Senior Day, the seniors’ last home game of their high school career. Carrillo said, “senior day can bring a special magic where the seniors are really hoping to step up and the other players are hoping to do their best for the seniors, so when you’re playing for one another, wonderful things can happen.”
As the team needs three points in the last two games of the season to qualify for the state tournament, Smith believed, “being able to just take chances,” is what the team needs to focus on, adding, “if we are able to capitalize on them, we will win.”
The Tigers next play at Cambridge-Rindge, Monday, October 30, 2017.
