Girls' gymnastics defeats Brookline despite injuries

Girls’ gymnastics takes a break for a photo-op.

Girls’ gymnastics, 8-2, beat Brookline 132.1-115.85 in their final dual meet of the season at home Tuesday.

According to senior Allie Hurwitz, a captain with seniors Lili Margolin and Rachel Vasilyev, “the meet went well.”

Coach Jim Chin is happy with the team. “We had a great performance on all four events. This is our second highest score of the season,” he said.

Chin has cited beam as the team’s weakest event in the past, but according to Hurwitz, the team performed well on beam Tuesday.
Margolin, junior Julia Wang and sophomore Amara Lutwack “definitely led their team yesterday,” said Hurwitz. Lutwack and Wang competed in all four events, with total scores of 35.75 and 35.5 respectively. According to Hurwitz, Margolin performed well on beam and floor.

Chin said that sophomore Daniella Chinitz had her best meet Tuesday, one she has been waiting for all season. “The coaches were very proud to see the improvements,” said Margolin.

The Tigers have been struggling with injuries this season. Hurwitz, as well as freshmen Rachel Adamsky and Calley Dias are out for the season, due to serious injuries.

“It has been a major setback having three people injured,” said Hurwitz. “On the other hand, the team has really stepped it up.”

The team will compete in the Bay State tournament Saturday, Feb. 9.

“I think we will place top three at Bay States,” said Hurwitz, “but the team will have to work hard these next two weeks.”
