Boys lacrosse fell to BC High 10-6 in the semifinals of the State Tournament Sunday, a game in which the Tigers made “costly mistakes” and committed turnovers that “could have potentially been scoring opportunities,” according to junior Teddy Yerardi, a captain with seniors Mike Hart and Dante Leone and junior Bryce Adam.
Yerardi also added that the team “had the talent to beat” BC High but “could not put the pieces together” in the final game of the season on Sunday.
Earlier in the State Tournament the Tigers defeated Catholic Memorial 9-6 in the quarterfinals and King Phillip 10-8 in the previous round.
Leone commended the Tigers’ effort in the CM game in particular.
“We picked up ground balls and our best players stepped up and scored big goals for us when we needed them,” he explained.
The King Phillip game left the Tigers as the last public school in the South bracket of the Tournament, a game that Yerardi praised as a testament to the unity of the team.
“We held together throughout the entire game even when we were down,” he said. “Everyone has everybody’s back and that really helps us as a team. We really clicked and it helped us power past a good King Phillip team.”
Adam added that the Tigers “picked it up at the start of the third quarter” after a “slow” first half against King Phillip, and were ultimately able to pull out the victory.
According to Yerardi, “it was a good season” for the team, with “so much of the talent” returning for another tournament run next season.
