Boys' cross country, 7-1, stays competitive despite rain

by Jacob Schwartz

Overcoming rainy weather, boys’ cross country, 7-1, defeated Dedham and Framingham 15-50 and 15-44, respectively, Wednesday.

The Tigers swept the race, earning the top three spots, as well as fifth and sixth, according to senior David Demarest, a captain with senior Jonny Long.

Junior Gabe Montague crossed the finish line at 16:28, the same time he achieved at the race against Needham and Walpole Tuesday, Oct. 2, which had easier racing conditions, Demarest said.

“Our team still runs aggressively in tough conditions,” he said.

In second and third place, junior Mike Schlichting and Long finished in 16:49 and 17:09, respectively. “We knew we were going to win this one without a problem, but we ran as hard as we could in the rain and did well,” he said.

Demarest said he was also impressed by performances in the JV race. Sophomore Carter Harrison won the race with a personal best time of 18:55. “He has a great attitude,” Demarest said.

While Demarest said that the team was happy with the results, he also said it is looking ahead to challenges. The Tigers will race Weymouth Tuesday.

“We’re more concerned about beating Weymouth next week. A couple of weeks ago, they took down Brookline, so we know they’ll be a challenge.”
