Girls track, 1-0, beat Braintree 82-13, in the season opener Thursday, “achieving seven personal records, 12 state-qualifying performances, and eight number one league performances,” according to senior Maggie Heffernan, a captain with senior Kayla Wong.
The tigers swept the 1000-meter with Heffernan taking the lead with a time of 3:18.92. Senior Miller McCarthy-Tuohy came in second with a time of 3:18.99.
“The shot-put was also a very impressive event,” Heffernan said.
In the 300-meter dash, junior Madison Nadeau took first with 42.58.
Freshman Isabella Reilly came in seventh overall, and second on the team for the 600-meter at 1:48.06. In addition, freshman Anna Nesgos came in at 1:48.65. Both of these members, according to Heffernan, “showed the team’s young talent.”
“All of our events appeared to be pretty strong, and we had great freshmen in the 600-meter with Reilly and Nesgos both scoring points,” Heffernan said.
Junior Meghan Bellerose placed first on the team and second overall with a time of 1:41.28.
Heffernan said, “The long jump and hurdles seem like they are going to be very strong events for us this season.”
