This school’s debate team is using its strong interest in politics and its energy in order to qualify for the Massachusetts state tournament at the end of the year, according to senior Abby Holtzman, the team’s captain.
The team competed in tournaments at Sacred Heart Saturday, Oct. 15 and Lexington Saturday, Nov. 19.
“Our school has done pretty well at the tournaments we have attended so far, and this past week two of our teams placed very highly,” said Holtzman.
The team contains a large group of freshmen, who have contributed to the team’s success this season, she added.
“Our freshmen have proved to be exceptionally open to discussion and mock debates during practice, which better prepares us for meets,” Holtzman said.
In future meets, the team will work to improve case-writing, which works best when students are in a more cohesive group, according to Holtzman.
This school’s debate team will compete in tournaments Saturday, Dec. 10 at Lincoln-Sudbury; Saturday, Jan. 7 at South; Friday, Jan. 13 through Sunday, Jan. 15 at Lexington; and Saturday, Jan. 28 at Revere.
