The Disease Awareness Club will host its “Putting4Patients” mini-golf fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Walnut Street field, to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund.
The event will feature 18 holes of mini golf, a 30-foot hole-in-one challenge, raffles for local businesses, free food, and face painting. Tickets cost $10 for students and $20 for adults, with all proceeds going directly to cancer research. Attendees can also make online donations through the club’s website.
“The purpose of the event is to raise money for cancer awareness and research, while having a good time doing it,” said senior and club co-president Jojo Tang. Co-president Peter Reale added that they have been planning the event since the summer with event coordinator Mark Levie, who partners with Dana-Farber.
According to senior Clara Binne, the club’s social media officer, members have reached out to local elementary schools and promoted the event on social media to encourage families to attend. “We’re hoping to make this a real Newton community event,” she said. “We encourage people to bring their siblings, friends, and anyone who wants to support a good cause.”
This year’s event continues the legacy of former club president Alex Gleason ’25, who co-founded the Disease Awareness Club with Nathan Reisenburger ’25 after Gleason’s mother passed away from cancer. “We’re just trying to carry on his legacy and support people who are struggling,” said Reale.
Tickets and donation links are available through the Disease Awareness Club’s website.
