Girls’ soccer defeated Framingham 2-0, Thursday, Oct. 16 at home in a high-energy game under the lights.
According to head coach Brian Leighton, the highlight of the game was the team’s “ability to possess the ball, to keep the ball and connect passes.”
The Tigers rebounded from a tough 0-4 loss against Natick, a team currently rankedcurrentlywhich is ranked third in the state. Senior Colleen Walsh, a captain along with seniors Eva Hautefeuille and Shiaowei Qu said, “We came off a pretty bad loss, so we were really excited to come play today.”
Qu added that the win against Framingham was their “big breakthrough.”
Framingham began with possession of the ball, but the Tigers scored their first goal eight minutes into the game. Sophomore Emily Sloan played with consistent aggression, driving the ball up the field toward the goal.
Throughout the game, sophomore Annabelle Wardly, goalie, had spectacular saves against Framingham’s solid offense. With only two minutes left in the first half, Wardly dove to stop the ball after a corner kick by Framingham, earning cheers from the crowd.
As the second half began, the Tigers came back with renewed energy and landed their second goal with a swift corner kick.
The remainder of the game consisted of close shots and valiant effort from North, but neither team’s ball found the back of the net.
“We’re trying to figure out how to get better shots, how to get better opportunities in the flow of the game,” Leighton said.
Hautefeuille added, “I think we’re still learning how to not have a lot of careless turnovers, and so this is one of the first games where we really took possession well.”
According to Qu, the team built off of energy from this win while heading into their highly-anticipated rivalry matchup against South on Saturday, Oct. 18, where the final score was 1-1. The Tigers, 3-5-5, will face Wellesley Tuesday, Oct. 21 at home.
