As the night went on, Nitrous Oxide’s humorous skits kept audience members laughing throughout the two-hour performance, amazed by the cast’s creativity.
Nitrous Oxide ran in the Little Theater from Feb. 6-8 and was directed by seniors Charlotte Pinto and Arnav Travers.
It is an annual student-led sketch comedy show featuring 12 talented cast members who perform skits they each created throughout the night.
The show opened with the whole cast on stage “auditioning” to be Travers’ best suitor, with Pinto leading the process. The auditions showcased the talented cast, and were a great start to make the audience laugh and introduce the show Nitrous Oxide, where you would learn more about each potential suitor.
The skit “Always Prepared,” was written by sophomore Ellison Pierre-Louis and acted by juniors Jordan Andrews, Will Hartzog, and freshman Theo Reilly. It followed a girlfriend who continuously acquired all of the items her boyfriend asked for, which made little to no sense since they were camping. The unrealistic aspect was hilarious and when her boyfriend asked for his absent father as a joke, the girlfriend presented him. This left the audience dying with laughter throughout the performance.
According to senior Eliza Kane, a cast member, while there is no specific message for Nitrous Oxide, the show’s purpose is for the audience to have a fun night full of laughter.
Senior Aviv Rosenbaum said, “I love being someone who can make people laugh, it feels great. It is just about having fun and doing something for the joy of it.”
“Drive Through Karaoke,” written by Pinto and acted by Kane, Pinto, senior Maya Macomber, and junior Zadie Besev, included unique lyrics from Closer by The Chainsmokers. Pinto sang as she ordered at a drive-through. The audience was impressed by the comedic yet catchy lyrics that made you want to sing along.
According to Kane, her four years doing Nitrous Oxide have been a highlight. “It’s a lot of fun to be together and not be afraid to share my ideas, and have an outlet to be creative and have a designated space to be funny.”
Overall, the show was an exciting night of sketch comedy for anyone looking to get many laughs and watch the impressive student cast.
