Students celebrated the successful fall sports season and competed in games during a pep rally Tuesday, Nov. 26 in the Reggie gym.
“We’ve had the most successful fall season at North that we’ve had in a long time, you should be proud to be a Tiger,” said Athletics Director Mike Jackson.
Both girls’ volleyball and boys’ soccer won the state championship this year, with girls’ volleyball winning for the third year in a row, and boys’ soccer breaking multiple records for entering playoffs at the 31st seed and coming out on top. The girls’ swim and dive freestyle relay team also took first place at states, breaking a 6-year-old school record.
The cheer team kicked off the pep rally with an energetic routine, receiving a chorus of cheers from the crowd.
Each of the nine fall sports teams then walked around the gym as student announcers, seniors Eden Cha and Brendan Conroy, recounted their achievements. Among the teams were girls’ cross country, which placed 8th in the state, boys’ cross country, which placed 7th in the state, and girls’ soccer, which made it into the Elite Eight for the first time in 11 years.
“Congratulations to all of the teams on their seasons and our two state champs, we’re incredibly proud of what everyone has accomplished,” said Barry House dean Nick Capodilupo.
Students also competed in several games—including a tug-of-war and a mattress slide race—to win gift cards to Jersey Mike’s. The teachers won the tug of war, and a team of students from the junior class won the mattress slide race.
The football team, who doubled their win rate from last season, coming away victorious from four games, announced their seniors, who all walked across the court to chosen songs. They beat Brookline Thursday, Nov. 16th, at the 130th annual Thanksgiving Day game, closing off their season.
Students and staff received raffle tickets to earn prizes for staying to the end at the beginning of the pep rally. The highest prize for students was a JBL Xtreme Speaker, while staff could receive a $100 Amazon gift card. The second highest prize for students was a $100 Amazon gift card, and the second place for staff was a $50 Amazon gift card.
