Students in the Class of ‘84 teamed up with North’s Leadership in a Diverse Society class to return to their alma mater Saturday, Oct. 7, to see the new building, reunite with fellow alumni, and observe changes to the school from the past 40 years, according to event organizer Pippa Haman Comfort ‘84.
“Seeing all that North has to offer students today and talking with the current student leaders who were our guides. We were all very lucky to attend North,” said Comfort.
The event began with alumni splitting up into groups for a building tour. The groups made stops at various areas, including Child Development, the pool, and the Reggie Gymnasium, while the alumni were able to learn about the school and its happenings and reconnect with each other.
“I love the building. There seem to be multiple spaces and opportunities for students to pursue varied individual interests,” said Comfort. “The artwork and messaging in the hallways were great. It looks like good visual art, music, theater space, science labs, and athletics. Also, tech-vocational opportunities.”
Comfort reached out to the school to plan their event last March, when the students taking Leadership in a Diverse Society, a class for juniors and seniors aiming to improve North, were also brought in to help.
“It’s not only in the classroom, you need to do things around the school,” said senior Molly Haughton, a member of the Leadership class. “This is the first opportunity to do something outside of school.”
Students from the class acted as tour guides for the alumni, showing them around the different wings of the school.
According to junior Ike Bode-Sojobi, the students hoped to connect with Alumni and “bring them back together.”
Comfort said the event went “fabulously,” and she “wouldn’t have changed a thing.”
