Girls’ swim defeated Natick 97-81 Tuesday, Oct. 9, at home in a meet marked by persistence and resilience. The Tigers stood their ground through the whole meet and kept up the score with strong races and incredible energy.
“Seeing everyone race their best and getting personal best times was amazing,” said senior Meredith Burwell, a captain with seniors Sana Takamatsu and Kate Urdaneta. “It was a really good meet and everyone was so positive.”
The Tigers were fueled by loud cheers from the crowd that motivated the swimmers to race their best, according to Burwell. The encouragement worked, and by the 500-yard freestyle race, North had almost doubled Natick’s points, leading 72-35.
Having won first in every event, the Tigers had an electric incentive to finish strong.
After the 100-yard backstroke, the Tigers’ unsurpassable 40-point lead had guaranteed North the win. With the victory already established, both teams went non-scoring for the remainder of the meet.
Freshman Kenzie Farbman amazed the crowd in the 200-yard freestyle relay that kept her lane in the lead. “She had a super fast backkick and has been improving a lot with all her practice,” said Takamatsu.
“Today’s meet was about getting people to swim in new events,” said Kristen Smith, the head coach. “Freshman Livia Yonker, a new diver, qualified for sectionals.”
North fell to Wellesley Tuesday, Oct. 15. They will swim against Brookline away, Friday, Oct. 18.
