Representatives from over 150 colleges across the country, as well as the military, will gather and meet with students in the SOA during College Night at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9.
“I think it’s a great way for students and families to get exposure to different types of schools and opportunities,” said college and career counselor Jillian Hall. “It’s good because you can go meet with the admission representatives here and ask questions, grab brochures and pamphlets, and get more information.”
Students are excited to find out more about the environment at different colleges, according to senior Pricilla Situ.
“I hope to meet with the colleges I’m considering and get more insight on how classes will be, including how the atmosphere is at those colleges, and get to know the college more,” said Situ.
In the past, the event was held over two nights, whereas this year, the event will be combined into one night. According to senior Canina Wang, although the SOA is larger, one common problem during college nights is the long lines for more popular colleges. Therefore, students may have less time to explore all the schools due to the wait times for certain colleges. However, some schools will be available for information sessions during lunch blocks in the weeks leading up to and after college night.
The event will be open to all grades and have the opportunity to explore colleges they may want to attend. According to sophomore Ryan Dell, “I think this is a good way to see what colleges are looking for and what I have to achieve in my next two years to get into the college that I want.”
According to Hall, students should approach the event with an open mind and be prepared to ask questions.
“Just be confident, shake those hands, and be yourself,” Hall added.
