Boys hockey faced a disappointing 8 – 1 loss to Weymouth Wednesday, February 14. Despite this unfortunate defeat on senior night, a game dedicated to celebrating graduating seniors and their accomplishments, the team remains positive about the season.
“It’s obviously a bittersweet feeling, but it’s also fun being the oldest on the team. It’s also sad that the season is coming to an end,” said senior Aiden Umina.
The opening period showcased both teams displaying intense effort in pursuing the puck. At the ten-minute mark, Weymouth secured the first goal, taking a 1-0 lead.
Subsequently, North faced challenges, conceding two more goals and extending Weymouth’s lead to 3-0.
The Tigers struggled at the beginning of the second period, as Weymouth scored again, furthering their lead to 4-0.
Despite struggling to clear their defensive zone, North managed to break through when senior Hayden Willen found the back of the net, assisted by senior Aiden Umina and freshman Derek McAuliffe. However, the Tigers found difficulty maintaining this momentum, and Weymouth quickly scored again. The second period concluded with Weymouth leading 5-1.
In the third period, North displayed effective passing but was unable to convert on numerous scoring opportunities. Despite senior Gavin Doucette, a goalie, demonstrating remarkable saves, Weymouth scored three more times.
“It’s difficult to lose. Especially on senior night. I think we showed grit for pockets of the game when we were hustling, hunting down pucks, working hard, and working as a team that we are caring and extending play time which we need to do more,” said Dan Doucette, the head coach.
The game proved to be a challenging experience for the Tigers, especially considering the season’s imminent conclusion. Despite the difficulties, the team showed impressive determination, visibly pouring time and energy into every play on the ice.
