A guide to staying active during quarantine

Although we are all stuck in quarantine, it is important to find ways to release stress and stay physically and mentally healthy. While it may seem like a daunting task, here are a few ways to stay healthy:

  • Get outside! According to physical education teacher Lauren Baugher, taking in Vitamin D is a great way to improve your mental and physical wellness. Even if it’s just opening the shades to let the sun in, taking in Vitamin D is very important!
  • Go for a run! Freshman Kate Larson has been trying to go for a run everyday. “It’s a nice way to not have to think about anything and to just let loose and do something that’s not related to school or to covid” she said.
  • Go for a walk or a hike! “I think it’s important that they’re doing something that they enjoy and something that hopefully will be something that they might wanna continue with” said Baugher.
  • Try an online dance or yoga class! According to Baugher, there are so many online classes, from yoga to interval training, that are great options and now is a great time to try them out!

  • Call a friend or relative! “I think health isn’t just physically but also mentally so check in with people that they care about and try to maintain friendships and relationships that mean a lot to them,” said Baugher.

It is a stressful time so it is okay to cut yourself a little slack but “doing something is better than not doing anything at all,” said Baugher. So go outside, call a relative, raise your heart rate, and stay safe.
