Theatre Ink’s spring musical “Hello, Dolly!” recorded their performance today during their rehearsal upon receiving the news that school is closed until at least March 23. Senior Leyla Davis, who plays Dolly Levi in the show, said, “I wouldn’t say I was shocked that they shut things down, but it’s a little upsetting when you’ve worked on the show since January.”
Yesterday, superintendent David Fleishman sent out an email to the community with the decision to cancel “all evening and community events until further notice,” which included the musical. The cast decided to record the production after a meeting yesterday to go over possibilities for how the show could continue.
According to Davis, “People have worked so hard on the costumes, the lighting, everything. I think that was the reasoning behind trying to record it. They don’t want everyone’s hard work to fall apart for nothing.”
Plans for releasing the recording to the public remain unclear. “The mindset right now is ‘the show must go on,’” Davis said.
