Boys’ swim placed sixth in the two-part Bay State Conference Championship, at North Jan. 28, and at Brookline Jan. 29.

“They put in a lot of hard work and effort in this season, and this is the first .500 season in a few years, so I was really proud of the work everyone put in,” said guidance counselor Patrick Manning, the head coach.

Despite the disappointing finish, senior John Ryan Byers, a captain with seniors Colin Foley, and Max Schaefer, Xander Van Alstyne, said North had strong individual performances, with sophomore Will Ayinon setting North’s record for the 50 yard breastroke with a time of 1:00.61, while Byers won the diving portion of the event with a score of 292.65.

“We were excited to have three conference champions crowned at that meet, John Ryan Byers won the diving event, and Will Anion won both the 50 freestyle, and the 200 individual medley, and that’s really exciting because we haven’t had that many individual champions in a few years.”

Byers also talked about the reason why North had a more successful year compared to the past.

“I think we worked really hard this season,” said Byers. “We focused on technique and strokes, I think that really paid off during the season.”
