Girls’ indoor track posted “really good” individual times at the Interdivisional Bay State Conference Meet on January 30, according to senior Gigi Downey, a captain with seniors Yahni Lapa and Ava Waters. She said that the team performed “very well” overall.

According to Downey, the meet was not scored, but the team still competed to try and reach qualifying times for the playoff meets.

In the 600 meter dash, Waters bested the competition with a time of 1:42.3, while freshmen Lorna Arcese and Olivia Doherty finished third and fourth, respectively.

Likewise, the 4×800 meter relay of junior Helena Texeira-Dasilva and freshmen Charlotte Kourierez, Morgan Gallivan, and Grace Doherty were successful in the meet, as they finished first in the event with a time of 9:39.95.

Downey praised the performances of the team ’s underclassmen this season, and was “shocked” at how much they contributed to the team’s success. “Overall, I’d say our team is a pretty young team, and we have a lot of promising freshmen who have performed really well this season,” she said.

As well, Downey applauded the “consistency” of the team’s upperclassmen. “We also have some fantastic upperclassmen such as Ava Waters, Yahni Lapa, and [junior] Tessa Bostwick, all of whom continuously keep performing at a high level.”

The team will compete at the Division I State Meet this Wednesday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.
