Girls’ Cross Country, 1-7, lost against Milton and Natick at Coldspring Park on Wednesday, in  a “tough” meet during a “rebuilding period,” according to senior Iman Sayeed, a captain along with seniors Jane Alandydy, Olivia Micalizzi, and Natasha Sharma.
“The team is definitely still rebuilding, but it put forward its best effort against these strong teams despite the heat and unpleasant weather conditions,” she said.
Milton, 7-1, and Natick, 8-0, are considered to be two of the top teams in the state, according to Sayeed.
Freshman Charlotte Kouroriez finished in first for North with a time of 20:40, but placed ninth overall amongst the three teams. Junior Katherine Benninger placed in second for North, and 13th overall, with a time of 21:14 minutes. As a result, the Tigers finished behind both Milton and Natick on the scoresheet.
According to Sayeed, Milton senior Grace Connolly broke the course record for Coldspring Park. Connolly finished in first place with a time of 17:38.
According to Sayeed, following every match, North recognizes runners who “broke a personal record, overcame a physical challenge, or took a risk.”
Sayeed added that this award is called the “Lady Tiger of the Meet” and is commemorated by giving the recipients a t-shirt. For this meet, the team recognized seniors Emily Evangelakos, Emma Meier Mullington-Ewert, and Sabrina Walsh and juniors Cecilia McCormick and Sophia Zhou.
North will take  on Braintree next Wednesday at Coldspring Park. According to Sayeed, this meet will be the Tiger’s last race at home, and will be the Senior Recognition Meet.
