Fresh faces are taking their talents to the stage, singing catchy songs, dancing from jazz to hip hop, and acting in comedic scenes. Proud and fearless freshman hilariously light the stage in Freshman Cabaret “This is Me.”
The show will run Dec. 14-16 at 7:30 with tickets at $7.
With music from Glee, Twenty One Pilots, Little Mix, American Authors, Sara Bareilles, Christina Grimmie, and many others, the inspiring and upbeat track plays well to the theme of pride and freedom of expression. Singing director, Sophomore Rene Miller, a director with Teá Baum, Meghan Vecchione, and Kiley Smyth,  described the music as varying from “upbeat indie songs to alternative rock to pop songs.”
The final song, “Pride,” by American Authors, wraps up the show with the message of self-worth. The cast comes together featuring freshmen Anna Weylman-Farwell, Elijah Taylor, Eliza Huntington, Myles Murphy, and Rachel O’Brien as soloist.
Miller describes Freshman Cabaret as an “inviting way into North,” and it was something she had wanted to do since middle school. She compared the show to “Inside Out” because the theme is like “coming into high school and not knowing how to express oneself.”
Freshmen Lonnie Miller and Lauren Miller stood out in “Leaving On A Jet Plane” as they sang the song melancholically and brought the song to life.
Freshmen Sarah Bottino and Jenn Tang sang “What It Means To Be A Friend” about making and losing friends. The pair accomplished a dramatic impression of teenage social lives.
Flowing with energy, freshmen Josh Lev and Myles Murphy were captivating in “Two Nobodies In New York.” In this scene, the two have an idea to write their own musical. They naturally maneuvered the stage, singing with passionate intonation. The scene is as funny as it is believable.
Freshman Alex Wymer was especially notable. He performed the song “Tear In My Heart” and appeared in several other scenes. He shifted his laidback vibe from when he sings to an enthusiastic tone in the scene “President Bark Obama.”
Behind the scenes Mary Ann Bess in stage crew worked the lights. An all freshman band played live music all throughout the show, which wasn’t able to happen last year. Bees described Freshman Cabaret as one of the cheerier shows with lots of bluing lighting for calm and happiness. The dances were consistently in tune with the scene and creative. They were pleasing side performances.
“Everything was about to come together. I was about to cry.” said Miller on watching one of the final rehearsals. “Show who you are and shine on stage or offstage” said freshman Sammy Schrager on what the audience should take away from the theme of the show.
