Taunton’s turnover in the second quarter led to every Tiger touching the ball in transition before sophomore Ethan Wright hit a three-pointer to help to Tigers to a 60-41 win over Taunton Friday in the second round of the state tournament. The team will now advance to the third round of the state playoffs.
According to coach Paul Connolly and senior Nate Hollenberg, a captain with senior Mike Gately, the Tigers’ defense was key to the win. They mentioned that the team held Taunton, a team with a very strong offense, to a single digits in the second and third quarters, allowing only eight points and three points, respectively.
Hollenberg said that “this was definitely our best defensive effort of the season.”
Leading the way for the Tigers was senior Mike Davis, who had another five blocks.
Write also played well for the team. He had 29 points, which was nearly half of all of the points that the team scored.
The Tigers play next tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Newton South against BC High.
