Girls’ soccer, 0-1-2, has “come a long way” from the team’s first preseason game, benefitting from a “strong and effective back four” in the first few games according to senior Katie Daniel, a captain with seniors Eliza Bresler and Maya King.
King reaffirmed the team’s improvement in the last couple weeks, explaining that the Tigers have “worked on getting better each consecutive game” and have accomplished this goal.
English Teacher Alicia Carrillo, the coach, said that the team looked “disorganized and rusty” in the preseason, and have been “looking for improvement” since the first scrimmage against Lincoln-Sudbury.
Carrillo explained that going forward, as the Tigers look for their first win, the team will work on “linking up play between the middle third and the back, and the middle third and the attack” between players, and “sharpening first touches.”
According to Daniel, the attacking portion of the field will be one of the Tigers’ primary focus points in the next couple games.
“One of our team goals is to connect more passes in the final third so that we have more chances to finish, and therefore score more goals.”
King held a similar view on the team’s room for improvement, citing the “need to work on transitioning from defense to midfield to forward,” and a better “attack towards the net.”
These improvements will likely be implemented for the team in practices in the next week, as the team will play Brookline on Monday before preparing for Framingham Friday.
On practices, Carrillo said specifically that the team will look to “put more effort into practicing the way we want to play.”
Building off last season, Daniel also mentioned that she and her fellow captains have “worked to maintain” and understand the importance of a “strong sense of team chemistry,” one aspect that Daniel is “excited to see” the rest of the season bring.
