Boys’ track, 6-0, finished the season in the All-State meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Feb. 21, placing in several events.
The Tigers’ 4X200 team, consisting of senior Ben Porter, junior Max Hernandez, and sophomores Jordan Greene and SeanRoss McClinchy, finished third. According to Porter, captain with seniors Carter Harrison and Perry Miller, and Junior Jared Prior, this was a great performance for the team.
Porter also finished fifth in the 300, and Prior and junior Ed Acuna finished 10th in long jump and shot-put, respectively. Although the team failed to repeat as statewide champions, Porter said that the result was still “good” for the team, and reiterated that the season was a success overall, citing things such as “hard work,” “great coaches,” and the fact that “everyone contributed” all season to the team’s success.
According to Prior, the team had “hard working athletes who did what was needed of them at every point throughout the season,” and this led to the positive season for the team and an undefeated record.
The team was able to continue a now 18 year-long winning streak of 116 meets in the Baystate conference, and according to coach Jim Blackburn, this was a major accomplishment for the team this season.
