Boys’ indoor track competed in the Division 1 State Meet Wednesday, Feb. 11, finishing eighth in the meet with 22 points, despite having several runners qualify for the All-State meet Feb. 21.
Senior Ben Porter, a captain in addition to seniors Carter Harrison and Perry Miller and junior Jared Prior, said that the meet “went about as well as it could have gone” for the team, and that the “season was good” as a whole.
Prior voiced a similar opinion, saying that the team “just couldn’t pull through in some events,” and that “winning was a bit of a long shot” in the state meet.
Qualifiers are senior Ben Porter, second in the 300 meter at a time of 36.12 seconds, junior Jared Prior, first in the long jump at 21 feet and 9.75 inches, junior Ed Acuna, seventh in shot put, and the 4X200 team, who finished seventh as well. The 4X200 team consisted of Porter, Prior, junior Max Hernandez, and sophomore SeanRoss McClinchy.
When asked about the Tigers’ possible success in the All-State meet, Porter said that Prior is “very good at the long jump,” and also mentioned that Prior is “high in the rankings” going into the All-State meet.
Prior said that “it would be great” if he won the long jump for the team. He also mentioned that “Porter can’t be counted out in the 300,” saying he is “a very good runner,” but that “anything can happen.”
For the rest of the team, the season is now over. Porter said that it was good to keep their winning streak of 113 straight Bay State Conference meets alive this season, with a record of 6-0 on the year.
According to coach Jim Blackburn, the team “has many future stars,” and that “the next few years are very bright” for the Tigers.
