Girls’ indoor track, 6-0, competed in the Bay State Conference Championship Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Although the meet is not scored, it was a good opportunity for the Tigers to compete against the best girls in the conference, according to senior Isabella Reilly, a captain with seniors Adrianna Batista, Olivia Gomez, and Elena Schwartz.
“This meet was just a way to have the strongest individuals compete head-to-head, so the completion today was great. This served as a tuneup for the Division 1 State Meet next Wednesday,” said Reilly.
According to Batista, the Tigers’ performance at the meet was very important as the season soon comes to a close, saying that the “performances definitely proved to [her] and many other people in the league that [the Tigers] have a legitimate shot at placing and scoring big points at the Division 1 State Meet next week.”
Batista also added that with the team’s success in previous years, there is constant pressure on the Tigers’ at these meets, but that she thinks the team has done great with dealing with that.
“Over the years I think North has developed a reputation of being able to compete at an elite level without cracking under high pressure situations. Our reputation has created a constant bullseye on our backs. The pressure is always prevalent, we just don’t show it,” she said.
Gomez, who has been injured all season and cannot compete, said that as a result she was able to be a spectator and saw great things from the Tigers.
“A lot of girls stepped up to the plate and had some outstanding performances, and since this wasn’t a meet where the team could score as a whole, each individual could really aim for her own personal record. That being said, as usual everyone had a role in cheering the other girls on, and this team is just a joy to be with,” she said.
Batista also noted that this meet was very important for the Tigers because it allowed for the coaches to see what they have to work on for the Division 1 State Meet and the All-States meet.
