Troy, the second half of the previously staged Song of Achilles, opens Theatre Ink’s 2014-15 Season on September 18, 19, and 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the little theatre.
Directed by Melissa Bernstein, the previous director of Song of Achilles, Troy is a beautiful story of the love between soulmates Achilles and Patroclus. The show includes some of North’s own, as well as South students, and professional actors of all ages from the area.
Unlike Song of Achilles, Troy is much more of a play format and less of a staged reading. Bernstein says that, “Some of the actors actually wanted to memorize it themselves, and so this time no one is holding a script, and it is full of beautiful dialogue and soliloquies.”
Although the set for the play is practically a blank stage, all of the excitement and entertainment is sure to come from the actors and from the spectacular lighting designer and North faculty member Jay Zowacki, who have put tons of effort into making the production a reality.
The show includes beautiful dialogue adapted straight from the book Song of Achilles itself and is an adaptation never before seen on stage. According to stage manager sophomore Alli Salwen, “It’s really beautiful to see how much effort everyone has put into this show and to see it become such a powerful performance.”
Tickets are $7 each, and Bernstein “Encourages everyone to come out” because “It’s a production that many people would love to see, even if they aren’t theatre-goers.”
