Pop music will fill the cafeteria when students from across the music department perform as part of Pops night tomorrow.
Pops Night is an annual event put on by the music department that is the “culmination of our year’s work in music,” said fine and performing arts department head Todd Young. It is “an opportunity for all of the performing groups to have a chance to perform together on one stage.”
According to Young, music will be performed by the Concert Choir, Family Singers, Jubilee Singers, Tiger Bebop, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble One, Jazz Ensemble Two, String Ensemble, and the Orchestra.
“It is a fun way to wrap up our year together of music-making,” Young said.
The music “tends to be more on the pop level of music as opposed to some of the more serious stuff that we do during the regular course of the year.” Each of the ten groups will play five to ten minutes of music.
Scholarships are given out at the end of the night to “students who have spent a lot of hours performing on our stages and being part of our rehearsals,” said Young.
Pops Night begins at 6 p.m. with a potluck dinner for both students and families. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.
Tickets are not required to attend the free event, but according to Young, donations to help fund the scholarships are welcomed.
