A panel of seniors spoke about their experiences at this school and discussed questions regarding race during B-block Friday as part of Black Culture Day, which was organized by the Black Leadership Advisory Club (BLAC).
The panel included seniors Sam Jones, the president of BLAC, Patricia Muumba, Jermaine Singleton, Michaela Smith, Infiniti Thomas-Waheed, Angela Ward, and Jermel Wright. English teacher Peter Goddard was the monitor for the presentation.
The seniors also answered questions from the audience and discussed the college process.
“My hope is that students got a chance to hear about the school and what goes on within it from a different perspective than they are used to,” said Jones. “That’s really the purpose of BLAC, to raise awareness of the various black experiences, black culture and history amongst the student body.”
According to Jones, this year’s Black Culture Day was a step up from last year’s. “With only a couple weeks to prepare, we put on two panels and a lecture in the Little Theatre [last year]. This year we put on three panels, a Jubilee concert, and a lecture, all in the auditorium.”
