Jazz night, also known as the Northside Jazz Cafe, is a jazz-oriented concert that will feature the Jazz Ensemble, Tiger Bebop, Jazz Lab Band, Jazz Workshop, Advanced Jazz Improv., and special the Jazz Band from Day and Bigelow Middle School tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Music teacher Richard Labedz is responsible for both teaching every jazz group at this school, and for putting together the whole night. He said that this is a very busy and exciting night for some of the groups, as this will be the improv. group’s first public performance of the year.
“The best part about this is to see all these different groups at one concert,” said Labedz.
He explained another interesting aspect of the concert. “The collaboration between the vocal jazz group and parts of the Jazz Ensemble is both fun for the musicians and the audience members.”
The audience will hear a variety of jazz songs like “Blue Skies” and “All of Me” performed by Tiger Bebop, and the jazz classic “In the Mood” performed by the Jazz Ensemble.
Sophomore Elise Hausman is part of the vocal jazz group, Tiger Bebop. “I’m most excited to perform ‘Blue Skies’ because it’s a really fun piece that we just really pulled together.”
She added, “Everyone should come Monday, because its gonna be a really great, jazzy night!”.
