This school’s Jubilee Singers will be performing their Winter Concert “One More Time!” in the auditorium next Saturday at 7 p.m., with special guests from South’s Harambee Gospel Choir.

Sophomore Charlie Rao’s favorite song in the concert, “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel,” is the shortest piece the group has been working on, as well as the one they have been working on the longest. “The intonation and dynamics of our voices are very vital to the quality of our performance,” said Rao.  “This makes it a very challenging, but enjoyable, song to sing.”

Preparing for the upcoming concert has been both stressful and exciting according to junior Ella Laniado and Rao. “It’s been hectic preparing,” Rao said. “But everyone is talented, so we are looking good for the concert.”

According to Laniado, “it has been a really great process. Everyone has worked super hard learning harmonies and everyone puts in 100% effort.”

“Soon Ah Will Be Done” is one of the most challenging songs for the chorus according to Rao. “As the bass section, we have a lot of difficult key changes and we are forced to sing in our ‘head voices’ at points.”

Sophomore Nate Hollenberg is in Jubilee Singers for the first time this year. “Not having sung in a serious chorus before, I learned so much, and have been introduced to people that I probably would not have met before.”

The variety of different students in Jubilee Singers is a major factor of the group. Hollenberg said, “Through Jubilee, I have met many new friends, and have been introduced to so many new, interesting, diverse people that I would not have met without it.” Despite the differences, junior Jonathan Gomolka pointed out the one similarity that brings the chorus together. “We all share something in common, we all love and want to sing!”

Tickets for the Jubilee Singers Winter Concert will be sold at the door for $10.
