MIT provided this school materials and training for a synthetic biology lab last Thursday D and E block and yesterday C and G block, according to science teacher Karen Tokos.
Tokos said, “The experiment was a test to determine which of two E. Coli strains is a more suitable host for each of two synthetic color generating genetic constructs.”
Dr. Natalie Kuldell of MIT provided DNA, E. Coli bacteria and technical support. She also trained science teachers Ann Dannenberg and Jo-Anne Purdy for the lab, according to Tokos.
Tokos said, “The larger context for the lab is to familiarize students with the groundbreaking field of synthetic biology.”
