Mock Trial beat Belmont yesterday in its first trial of the year, according to sophomore captain SeungWan Kang, a captain with junior Sasha Kliger.
Kang said, “It was a close battle, but ultimately, our ability to make our case without relying too much on our notes gave us the edge.”
“With a lot of new members this year, I’m proud to say that the team is well on our way to becoming solid,” said Kang. “The new members have shown significant growth over the course of the season, which has benefited the strength of the team as a whole.”
Kang also gave credit to sophomore Ting-Han Tarn, saying that he did an exceptional job “arguing a key point during the trial against the other team’s attorney that helped our side tremendously while significantly impeding the other team’s case theory.”
The team has its next trial Thursday, Jan. 31 against Gann Academy, and another on Wednesday, Feb. 6 against Beaver Country Day School.
The team’s goal is to make it past these preliminary rounds and advance to states, according to Kang.
