Parent Nights teach about college process

by Nicky Kaufman

Sophomore Parent Night was Wednesday from 7-8, and Junior Parent Night will be Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 6:30-8:30.

According to PTSO president Sally Brickell, the Sophomore Night was meant mostly for parents, “but juniors are encouraged to attend the Junior Night as well their parents.”

Guidance counselor Beth Swederskas said, “We only have one night per year per grade for these events, and parents should take advantage of the information that is presented. It is a nice way to meet or reconnect with their guidance counselor.”

Brickell said that at the Junior Parent Night, students and their parents will receive information about post-high school planning.

Sophomore Parent Night began in the auditorium, where parents received an introduction to Naviance, a college and career planning tool. Next, parents had an opportunity to meet in small groups with their students’ guidance counselors and received general information on what to expect for the remainder of their sophomore year.
