Principal Jennifer Price received a $250 gift card for winning the teacher category in the Yahoo! Women Who Shine contest this week.
The Yahoo! Women Who Shine contest allows readers of the website to nominate women in their communities who are doing something extraordinary, according to the website. The nominees are put into categories, including activist, athlete, entrepreneur, healer, mother, public service, survivor and teacher.
Price was nominated to the contest for her work as a teacher with the Global Education Leadership Fund (GELF), according to Price.
She said, “I think it was inspiring to read all of the women’s stories and see how ordinary people can shine. I felt honored to be among them,” she said.
Many groups in this school’s community campaigned votes for Price, including on Facebook, the Library Learning Commons website and this website.
“The school community is the reason I won my category,” Price said.
She will use her winnings to buy food for the GELF dinner Saturday, April 6.
