Friday, the math team took first place in the large school division at the regional math meet at Canton, according to math teacher Elisse Ghitelman, the coach.
She said that the team peaked in the final round, which is the team round, by earning a perfect score. The team tied with Lexington, whom Ghitelman called a “perennial math team powerhouse.”
“We have never before been in the top three at this meet in the more than 15 years that I have coached math team,” she said. “I am incredibly proud of the members of the team.”
Senior Caroline Ellison, the captain, said that many team members had “only expected to get third place at best.”
She continued that when she found out that they had tied for first, she “was in disbelief, and I think everyone else was too.”
Ellison said that the team was “excited and pretty tense throughout the meet.”
She cited the team as having a wide range of talent, saying that there were “enough people to field a great eight-person team.
“It was an amazing way to end the season and my time on the team,” she said.
