Continuing its strong season, yesterday boys’ tennis, 2-1, shut out Braintree 5-0 at home.
It was a relatively simple match, coach Phil Goldberg said. “Braintree’s not a very talented team, and we won everything easily.”
Goldberg attributes the team’s success to the team’s “young, hard working players.”
He said that there are both talented new and returning players. “Our players are better now than they were at this time last year,” he said.
Junior Jesse Tripathi and sophomore Adam Goffstein, who both played second doubles, stood out in the match, according to senior Shelton Cochran, a captain with senior Parker Swiston.
“In general, everyone executed really well,” he said. “Some guys who don’t usually start started, and it went really well.”
Tuesday at home, the Tigers defeated a tough Brookline team 3-2, according to Cochran. “It was very hard. All five matches were very close.”
Junior Kris Labovitch stood out during his second singles match, Cochran said. “He kept his head up, not getting down on himself and did very well.”
Tomorrow, the Tigers will visit Walpole. “We generally do pretty well against them,” Goldberg said.
“We’ll still have to work on volleys and strategies of the game, some of our weaknesses,” he said.
According to Cochran, the Tigers need to work on staying focused and not letting pressure get to the them. “We’re turning and serving better and have gotten much more consistent, but we still have some things to work on.”
