In its season opener Tuesday, Sept. 13, girls’ swimming and diving lost against Norwood, 99-87.
“It was a good meet, despite the loss” said senior Veronica Ingham, a captain with senior Hunter Hedenberg. “Freshmen really stepped up their performances.”
According to coach Kirsten Tuohy, 11 swimmers qualified for States in November based on the times they achieved in the meet.
“We swam very well, and we would have won if 20 percent of the Norwood team wasn’t boys.”
The Tigers have two more meets competing against boys—the Walpole meet and the Weymouth meet.
Meet highlights included freshman Annmarrie Conboy-DePasqual’s performance in the 100-meter butterfly, freshman Sammi Giang’s performance in the 200-meter individual medley, and junior Sammi Chan and freshman Liv Sloane’s performances in backstroke.
Another highlight was junior Ariana Paone and Hedenberg’s first and second places in diving.
“I’m looking forward to a really strong season,” Tuohy said.
