Girls' hockey loses in close Milton home game

by Jacob Gurvis
After a close game, girls’ hockey, 0-4, couldn’t pull out the win, losing 4-2 against Milton at home Wednesday.
It was a tight game the whole way, and Milton held a one point lead for almost the entire game. Milton’s goal at the 9:28 mark put them ahead by two goals and sealed the Tiger’s defeat, according to coach Bob MacDougall.
“We did a lot of things very well, but we need to build off our mistakes. I told the kids in the locker room that while you work hard in sports, you don’t always do things right,” he said.
“The effort was fantastic. We forced them into a lot of turnovers,” he said. “Freshman Amanda Smith had great hustle, and she did a fantastic job on the penalty kill. She’s been doing a great job all year. We moved her to left wing, and she hasn’t missed a beat.”
Senior Marisa Gilardetti, a captain with senior Ashley Smith said, “We hustled and we wanted it, but our execution was off. We need to focus our energy on doing the little things right.”
Smith reiterated her coach’s and teammate’s words, that there was no lack of hustle in the upsetting loss for the Tigers.
“We played tough. We didn’t let them push us around much. We need to work on D-zone coverage, and maybe change our lines around a little,” Smith said.
The Tigers look to turn their season around in their final game before vacation, Saturday at home against Weymouth. The first game after break is Sunday, Jan. 6 against Nauset Regional.
