Girl’s cross country, 8-3, scored 154 points at the D1 meet Saturday, coming in fourth place and qualifying for the All-State Meet.
According to senior Catherine Xie, a captain with seniors Irene Golden, Sonya Jampel and Isabella Reilly, the race started off slowly for the Tigers, but they picked it up.
“In the first two miles of the race, our coaches thought that we had lost our opportunity to move on to All-States. However, because our runners were able to displace opposing runners from our rival teams Brookline and Newton South, we were able to place 4th in the meet as a team,” she said.
Xie added that the Tigers finished eight points ahead of Brookline and ten points ahead of South. Lexington came in first place with 69 points, Weymouth in second with 101, and Lowell in third with 112.
“We were ecstatic when we found out that we were able to defeat both teams,” she said.
According to Jampel, the team is very proud of its performance, and is looking forward to the All-State Meet, which will be at Franklin Park on Saturday.
“We are continuing with our final week of training which is a taper week and making sure we stay healthy,” she said.
According to Xie, the team will be represented by herself, Jampel, Reilly, juniors Natalie Cohen, Leah Metzger, Victoria Spitaels, and Catherine Teasdale, and freshmen Einat Gavish, Natalie Solari, and Rose Teszler. However, not all of them will get to race on Saturday.
“Although only seven are allowed to run on the actual meet day, we will all continue to train as a team in case we need our alternates to run on meet day,” she said.
Xie added that making the All-State meet was the team’s goal for the season, and are proud of the way the season has been going so far.
“For the next meet at Franklin Park we are mainly just hoping to have one more fantastic race before the season ends,” she said.
Jampel echoed her sentiments, saying that she hopes for one last good meet for the team.
“We are hoping to go out there and represent North as best we can,” she said.
