Alpine performs well under harsh weather conditions

by Ryan Condon
Skiing under challenging weather conditions, alpine skiing competed in its second race Monday at Blue Hills, according to senior Julie Chan, a captain with senior Mark Vrahas.

“The team did pretty well, considering the horrible conditions Monday night,” Chan said.  “It was raining the whole time, so the course was very icy.”

The conditions favored experienced skiers according to Chan, who said the team did well, despite rough weather conditions.

Junior Brian Tong placed 18th overall in the boys’ race, with a time of 33.31 seconds.  Chan finished 23rd in the girls’ race with a time of 43.99.

Chan said that despite the conditions, the team “Kept a positive atmosphere. They were bringing the spirit and cheering for everyone,” she said.  The team has had a positive attitude all season, according to Chan.

The team standings for this race have yet to be posted.  In their previous race, the girls placed fifth and the boys placed last out of seven teams.

Chan said that the team is developing quickly.  “The new members have improved a lot since the first practice,” she said.

“The main goal of this season is really to have fun, and to bond with each other because we have such a small team this year,” Chan said.

The Tigers have races next Monday and Thursday.  Chan said she expects that the team will continue improving.
