Pop-up performances remind students of upcoming auditions

A pleasant surprise awaited incoming students and teachers on the morning of Feb. 3 as Tiger Bebop sung classic tunes of their repertoire.
North’s select choral groups—Tiger Bebop, Family Singers, Jazz Ensemble and Jubilee Singers—are performing on Main Street last week and this week to encourage students to audition.
Audition sign ups are posted outside of room 158.
Mr. Reid, director of the Jubilee Singers, said, “We give people a chance to hear the groups and potentially pique their interest. It gives us an opportunity to talk about the process of auditioning and answer questions people may have about wanting to get into the group.”
Many students have never been to a choral concert, so the performances allow students that experience. Senior Aaron Stone, a member of Jubilee said, “One of the contributing factors that actually made me audition was seeing the choir in the cafeteria along with going to the winter concert in my freshman year.”
With a stretch of time before the Spring concerts, students are able to reset with these concerts.
Concert Choir class is suggested for interested singers. From there, students can choose to continue on to any of the groups which vary in style: Tiger Bebop focuses on jazz music and improvisation, Jubilee focuses on gospel music, and Family Singers focuses on classical music. All three frequently perform with the school bands and orchestra. Generally, juniors and seniors fill the spots, but exceptional freshman and sophomores may make the cut.
Senior Liana Glennon, a member of Jubilee said, “For people interested in music next year, I definitely recommend auditioning! And also if they don’t get in there are still other chorus and music opportunities like Concert Choir!”
