Girls' basketball survives after four-point Stoughton win

by Jacob Schwartz
Girls’ basketball, 15-6, barely edged Stoughton in the first round of the tournament Wednesday, 49-45, at home. Senior Kayla Farina, a captain with senior Gracie Rolfe, said clutch free throws by sophomore Infiniti Thomas in the fourth quarter, along with persistent defense, gave the team the victory.
According to Farina, not including free throws, the team only made four baskets in the second half. “It was a low scoring game for us. We had the lead at first, but they slowly came back, until at one point in the fourth quarter, they had the lead by a couple of baskets.”
“At that point,” Farina said, “we had to be on top of our defense, and we were. We forced a lot of turnovers and didn’t let them score.”
According to sophomore Maddie Bledsoe, the team “definitely stepped up at the end.”
“We had clutch defense and free-throws in the fourth quarter, and that’s why we won.”
The team did have scoring issues, Bledsoe said, but it did play well. “We showed that even when teams seem to be outplaying us, and it looks like they’re about to beat us, we don’t give up.”
