Youth Summit III, a public event in which members of the community will discuss common problems faced by Newton teens, will be held in the auditorium Wednesday, March 26, from 6 to 9 p.m.  It will be the third annual event of its kind.

Newton’s Teen Voice, a group of teen representatives working to address local adolescent issues, will be organizing Youth Summit III, according to senior Jacob Prince, a member with seniors Jared Perlo and Hiroki Shibuya. Mayor Setti Warren and the Newton Youth Commission will host the event.

“Summit III has been funded by the generous grant that Newton’s Teen Voice received at the beginning of this year to fund our group’s stress/mental health agenda,” said Prince. He added that the event will focus on improving communication between teens and adults. Ideas from the previous two Youth Summit events will be further developed, including issues relating to stress and mental health.

Kevin Breel, a comedian and mental health activist famous for his 2013 TED Talk on depression, will be featured as a guest speaker.

“There will also be a Q&A panel, consisting of Breel, local mental health specialists, and Newton teens, where audience members can ask their own questions about really anything, as well as an interactive game designed to involve the audience,” Prince said.

Members of Newton’s Teen Voice expect their “biggest turnout yet” at the upcoming event, according to Prince.

The event was rescheduled from February.
