Students take military assessment

by Douglas Abrams and Amanda Hills

Yesterday, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), a multi-aptitude test developed and maintained by the Department of Defense, was administered for those interested in joining the military.

The test is administered in both the fall and spring and is used to determine a student’s eligibility in enlisting in the armed services, according to guidance counselor Larry Allen.

Allen said that the program is crucial for students who want to join the military and is an important stepping stone. He is working to inform students about the ASVAB and is acting as the liaison between this school and the armed services, he said.

“Only join the armed services if you are sure, and make sure that you have covered all your bases,” he said.

He said that he encourages students who are interested in enlistment to come to his office, 459. “Only one percent of all students at this school participate.”
