Students attend Harvard Model United Nations conference

by Jackie Gong
This school’s Model United Nations team sent 23 delegates to the annual, four-day Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) conference alongside 3,000 other delegates from 35 countries last Thursday according to senior Daniel Ruttenberg, a secretary general with senior Chloe Amouyal.
The team received no awards from the event, according to Ruttenberg.
The delegates discussed 16 topics, ranging from the crisis in the Congo to hydraulic fracturing.
Freshman Lukas Alexander discussed the positives and negatives of hydraulic fracturing and how to stop it in his committee. “The most exciting moment was when we all voted on a resolution that was all-inclusive and ended fracturing,” he said, describing the conference as “amazing.”
“We all gained a lot of experience and gained a lot of real-life skills,” said Ruttenberg.
The team plans to attend Boston College’s EagleMUN conference Friday, March 27.
