Senior steps up, helps football to victory

by Jacob Schwartz

Senior TJ Quinn’s excellent running and a strong offense led the Tigers, 3-4, to defeat Wellesley at home Saturday, 21-7.

Quinn, who had been struggling with injuries for most of the season, bounced back to fill in for senior Nate Menninger, who was out with a broken collar bone.

“Nate Menninger was really one of the best running backs in the league,” said senior Mike Bradley, a captain with seniors Brendan Fagan and Swardiq Mayanja. “TJ really stepped up and played well in his place when Nate got hurt.”
Quinn topped 100 running yards in the victory, evading the Wellesley defense time and time again. The Tigers’ defensive line did a fantastic job making holes in the Raider’s defense.
In the first quarter, the Tigers punted on fourth down, only to retake possession in great field position, during the same play, thanks to a roughing-the-kicker call on Brookline. Senior Ryan Byrne, the quarterback, burst into the end-zone a few plays later.
Quinn scored on a short run in the third quarter, giving the Tigers a three touchdown lead in the third quarter.

Junior Mike Sullivan stressed the importance of doing well against Walpole tonight. “We’re counting on beating them so that we’ll have a better chance of going 6-5, and finishing with a winning season.”
