- Members of the science team competed in the Massachusetts Science Olympiad this weekend.

This weekend, the science team competed in the Massachusetts Science Olympiad at Framingham College, along with 43 other teams from across the State, according to senior Cole Kerr, a captain.
The team placed third at the competition with a score of 127, following second place-winner South and first place-winner Acton-Boxborough, whose scores were 107 and 98, respectively. The team with the lowest score wins, according to Kerr.
The competition was divided into three types. Studyaheads, which are tests on general scientific topics, Buildaheads, which are engineering projects built ahead of time by several team members, and on-site events, which “involve a variety of other competitions,” Kerr said.
He said that almost all of the team’s events placed within the top ten.
He said he is proud of the team’s third place win, saying it is “not something to scoff at.” He added that the team is very self-sufficient and “uses much of its own resources and organization,” which he called a “characteristic that we find very few competitive high school teams share.”
Kerr continued, “This alone should make our success at Olympiad worth remembering proudly.”
He also noted the team’s particularly competitive edge this year. However, he also said that the team is “incredibly fun and tight-knit,” and that he will miss the team when he graduates this year.
The team has two competitions remaining in the season. First, Envirothon, an ecology based competition with in-field tests and a formal presentation, will be Thursday, May 17. The last competition of the year will be at Massachusetts Institute of Technology Broad Institute’s annual trivia competition Wednesday, April 25.
