North’s science team experienced another season of success showing three big wins in various contests just this month, placing fourth overall in Science Olympiad and winning second in Ocean Bowl and Science Bowl, according to senior Amy Huang, Science Olympiad captain.
“We got fourth in the state, which is still good,” said sophomore Jessica Chen, a Science Olympiad team member.
The team took fourth place overall at the annual Science Olympiad competition, Saturday March 19 at Framingham State University according to Chen. She added that the team medaled in a range of events, winning first place in Dynamic Planet and second in Anatomy and Physiology, as well as placing in the Protein, Forensics, Robot Arm, Geomapping, and Fossils competitions.
The Ocean Bowl team also picked up wins for North’s science squad earlier this month.
Ocean Bowl’s A team placed second and B team placed seventh at the Blue Lobster Bowl at MIT March 5, Huang said. “In Ocean Bowl we felt much more confident this year than last and managed to beat Lincoln-Sudbury in the semifinals, which North hasn’t done for a while,” she added.
The Science Bowl team also competed March 5. The team’s A squad grabbed second place and the B team advanced all the way to quarterfinals at the University of Connecticut tournament, according to Huang.
We had a really strong team this year that was very senior heavy,” Huang said, but the team “spent a lot of time this year with newer members and I think that really will pay off.”
Ocean Bowl and Science Bowl are annual buzzing competitions with multiple teams representing each school. Science Olympiad is a competition with 23 tests and engineering events.
