This school’s music groups showcased a variety of pleasant holiday tunes in the auditorium at the annual in-school holiday concert E-block yesterday.
The Orchestra, Symphonic band, and Wind Ensemble, conducted by music teacher Adam Grossman, got everyone into the holiday spirit as they started off the concert with “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.
After the Orchestra cleared the stage, seniors Molly Dalzell, Sean Fitzpatrick, and Irene Golden lead the Wind Ensemble in three different pieces. The last piece, “Carol of the Bells” by Peter Wilhousky, lead by Golden, left people softly humming the tune even after the musicians had all left the stage.
Tiger Bebop then took the stage, with an a cappella rendition of “Let it Snow” by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn. Afterwards, they sang “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms. The group started by snapping their fingers, and their overlapping harmonies captivated the whole audience throughout the piece.
Jubilee Singers brought an empowering energy to the concert, filling the whole room with the song “Angels We Have Heard on High,” conducted by Jubilee director Sheldon Reid and featuring soloist junior Elise Hausman.
After Jubilee, the Family Singers sang “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” a cappella, with the audience getting a laugh out of the widely unknown verses of demanding “figgy pudding.”
Concert Choir then made an appearance with “Jingle Bells” by James Pierpont, conducted by Grossman. The familiar tune brought additional cheer to the concert.
The concert wrapped up with all the vocal groups coming together to sing holiday songs conducted by fine and performing arts department head Todd Young, including“Oh Chanukah” and “Deck the Halls.”
